Family Afghan Repair

A client commissioned me to repair a family afghan that had been crocheted by a friend of hers. The most difficult part of this repair was finding yarn of a similar color, weight, and fiber content to do the repair.

Luckily, the person who had stabilized the large hole had preserved most of the unraveled yarn and secured it in place. I was able to reconstruct most of the crochet stitches using that yarn. This photo shows the repair on both holes.

The afghan was missing a section of chain stitch between several of the crocheted blocks.

It took some time to find yarn that was a close enough color and fiber content to blend in well. The yarn I finally found was thicker than the yarn in the afghan. I ended un-plying several yards of the yarn, removing one of the strands, and replying the yarn to make it a closer match to the thickness of existing yarn. This photo shows the new chained sections.

The client was very pleased with the final repair.
